A bland glossy monochromatic kitchen with large expanses of granite was in need of modernizing. The new owners, a young family with more traditional tastes, were working on a tight budget. The layout was good, but some finishes and fixtures were dated. The existing cabinetry and gloss tile flooring were both in good condition. The granite benchtop was to stay, so the trick was to come up with a design that complemented this focal point and freshen up the entire space.
